Qualcomm’s stock jumped 11% after unveiling two new AI chips, the AI200 and AI250, set to challenge Nvidia and AMD in the booming data center market.

Traditionally known for mobile processors, Qualcomm is now targeting the AI infrastructure powering models like ChatGPT. The new chips will launch in 2026 and 2027, offering 768GB of memory and liquid-cooled racks that promise energy efficiency comparable to Nvidia’s systems.

While Nvidia still dominates 90% of the data center GPU market, Qualcomm’s open ecosystem and modular design aim to attract cloud providers seeking flexibility and cost savings.

McKinsey projects $6.7 trillion in AI infrastructure spending by 2030 — and Qualcomm wants its share of that future.
